Frequently Asked Questions
How are the impressions made for the proper fit?
As you place your order, you may choose to receive an "at-home" impression kit, or they may choose to have the impressions done professionally at any Audiologist, E.N.T., or hearing aid dealer in your area.
If you choose to have them made professionally by someone else, you will receive an automatic $50 discount to put towards that cost. You will not receive an "at-home" impression kit. Generally, most professionals will charge you $45-$50 for this service.
If you choose to do the impressions yourself, allow 2-4 weeks for delivery of impression kit. Shipping will normally not take this long unless there are unforseen weather problems or Holiday delays. The impression kit includes a detailed instruction guide giving you step by step in the impression taking process and includes packaging for return to Nitro Ear.
If you choose to get the impressions professionally done, the impressions must be sent to Nitro Ear in a BOX, not an envelope or padded envelope. Otherwise, the impressions could be damaged in transit. Once the impressions are received, the manufacturing and shipping process will take
4-6 weeks. We offer a fit guarantee as part of the original warranty.
Do you offer a "standard" or "one size fits all" product?
We do not offer a "standard" size or "one size fits all" shell. All products are custom made to fit your ears exactly. Having a custom made shell will ensure that the instrument is comfortable and has the maximum noise reduction rating. "One size fits all" shells are prone to "air leaks" causing whistling and feedback, and may be very uncomfortable due to the size and shape of your ear canal. No two ears are the same so "one size fits all" generally don't work well.
Updated! We now offer the Super Mag Digital with a "one size fits all" Behind-the-Ear style.
What is MPC or Max Power Control?
The "MPC" or Max Power Control is the adjustment that allows you to set how loud the loud sounds are. The compression circuits in NitroEars are different than most of our competitors units in this regard. Instead of simply completely shutting down a loud sound and then turning it back on, the compression circuit intelligently brings that loud sound down to a comfortable level so there are no pauses or dropouts and the sound is much smoother. The "MPC" allows you to adjust exactly how much the circuit compressess these loud sounds.
Can I order just a single NitroEar unit for one ear?
Yes, you can order just one NitroEar if needed. The default option is two units. The main drawback to only getting one unit is that you are only protecting one ear. Since we have been in the hearing industry for over 30 years, we understand that there are some reasons for only needing one unit. For instance, one ear may be completely deaf, so there is really nothing to protect. Therefore, we will sell only one if it is desired. The price for only one unit will be half of the listed pair price.
What is the difference between Digital and Analog?
The digital units feature the compression circuit which takes loud sounds and compresses them down to a comfortable level while the analog unit features a peak clipping circuit that completely shuts off noise above 90db. The digital units also feature 4 channels of wide dynamic range, adaptive feedback cancellation, microphone noise reduction, and bass boost while the Analog Hunter does not. For most people there is no perceivable difference in sound quality between the two units. The analog just doesn't have some of the more high-end features which makes it a more affordable custom option.
